Combi WR500 + MAT300

WR500 + MAT300 Combination Fabric

The term WR500 + MAT300 combi refers to a complex fiberglass reinforcement that combines a 500 g/m² Woven Roving (continuous filament fabric) with a 300 g/m² Chopped Strand Mat (CSM). These layers are stitched together with polyester thread to form a single 800 g/m² reinforcement fabric.

Key Advantages

  • Improved efficiency: Allows a structural reinforcement layer and a finishing mat layer to be applied in a single operation.

  • Excellent resin bonding: The polyester stitching that holds the layers together eliminates the need for chemical binders, allowing rapid resin penetration and wet-out.

  • Versatility: Highly conformable, making it suitable for corners, contours, and curved mold surfaces.

Typical Applications

  • Marine repair and manufacturing (hulls, decks, and other composite structures).

  • Production of large composite parts and molds.

  • Tanks, swimming pools, vehicle body panels, and automotive components.

Processing Guidelines

  • Compatible resins: Must be used with polyester or vinyl ester resins.

  • Lay-up orientation: The mat layer is typically placed directly against the gelcoat to prevent the woven pattern from printing through to the surface, with the woven roving facing outward.

  • Tools required: A consolidation (bubble-buster) roller should be used after resin saturation to remove trapped air and ensure proper laminate compaction.
